Reception
Children in the Nursery and Reception classes are given opportunities to develop in all the areas of learning following the Early Years Foundation Stage principles. First hand experiences and play provide meaningful contexts for learning because they motivate chldren and help them develop important dispositions to learning such as curiosity and persistence.
Each child will be viewed as an individual with specific needs which will be met in a variety of ways.
In the Nursery and Reception classrooms we aim to provide a balance between "work" and "play" by providing a combination of child initiated and adult led activities.
Children will be offered a wide range of purposeful activities which are founded upon the acquisition of academic, practical and social skills. These activities can occur both inside and outside of the classroom. We provide protective clothing to the children to enable them to access learning in a variety of weather conditions.
Group, class and individual activities form part of the day, allowing children to work in situations which will enhance the development of their confidence and social skills, encouraging constructive relationships with adults and their peers.
The Nursery and Reception classrooms provide the right environment, allowing children when appropriate to act freely on their own initiativ and meet their own needs through individual spontaneous activity.
In addition to the Early Years Framework we follow a separate curiculum for Moral and Spiritual Development called "Here I Am" which is recommended by the Diocese of Brentwood.
