Intention

ICT is a core subject in the National Curriculum.  It is each child’s entitlement to develop their ICT capability through a range of electronic learning tools.

This range may include:
Computer workstation (internet software and email available)
• Laptop computer
• Lego Dacta control system
• Roamer
• Data logging system
• Smart boards
• Multimedia presentation tools such as: -
• Digital camera
• Scanner
• Digital video camera
• Interactive software
• Tape recorders
• Television
• Video

What is ICT?

We believe ICT can impact on pupils’ attainment across the curriculum and is essential learning for this millennium.
ICT is the electronic storage, retrieval, manipulation and control of information. ICT engages children in a wide range of activities.

This range involves the children in:-
• Creating hypotheses
• Exploring ideas…’what will happen if?’
• Organising and memorising a process
• Investigating
• Reviewing work done
• Selecting, planning and presenting work
• Sharing and exchanging information

Aims and Objectives

We believe the key aims should be to develop each individual’s ICT capability by:-
• Showing children what is available
• Providing opportunities to use electronic tools appropriately
• Encouraging understanding of the breadth of ICT
• Enabling children to be discerning users by considering its wider implications in society
• Teaching ICT specific skills which may also be key to other areas of the curriculum
• Enhancing learning in all curriculum areas
