Design
What is Design Technology?
Design Technology is the process of evaluation, innovation and assembly of a product fit for purpose within fashion, time and financial constraints.
It involves the application of the principles of science to solve practical problems and calls on aesthetic appreciation of form and features as well as application of ergonomics.
Aims
Our aims in teaching Design Technology are that children will:
• Develop knowledge, skills and understanding needed to be able to design and make high quality products
• Develop creative problem solving
• Develop the ability to work as part of a team and independently
• Develop an awareness of values and attitudes to the made world and how we live and work within it
• Develop understanding of technology and its contribution to and effect on our society
• Develop an awareness of how design in the northern hemisphere sometimes functions at the expense of the southern hemisphere and its recourses. Fair trade issues.
