Physical Education
Physical Education has a vital and unique contribution to make to the physical, social, cognitive and emotional development of all children. We endeavour to provide challenging active learning situations which will develop children’s enjoyment, confidence, self-esteem, fitness and skill in physical activity. P.E. is taught by the class teacher or PE specialist as available.
Aims and Objectives
To provide opportunities for children to:
• become skilful and intelligent performers.
• acquire and develop skills, perform with increased physical competence and confidence in a range of physical activities.
• learn how to select and apply skills, tactics and compositional ideas to suit activities that need different approaches and ways of thinking.
• set targets for themselves and to compete against others, individually and as team members.
• take the initiative, lead activities and focus on evaluating and improving aspects of their own performance and of others.
• understand importance of regular physical activity and to promote an active lifestyle which children can continue at home and throughout life.
• understand the effect on the heart and other organs during exercise.
• develop positive attitudes towards self and others.
• develop good communication and co-operation skills.
• participate in extra-curricular activities, e.g. sports club, to enhance and extend P.E. activities.
• participate in inter schools competitions.
• to be encouraged to enjoy P.E. and have their efforts valued.
• learn how to handle equipment safely
